RECEIVE THE GIFT OF SIGHT
OneSightSM to provide free vision care and eyewear to local children

ALL STUDENTS HAVE BEEN PRE-SCREENED; NO WALK-INS ACCEPTED

More than 1,200 students from Richmond City and surrounding counties will receive the gift of clear vision October 19 through October 23, 2009 during a OneSight Clinic held at the Arthur Ashe Center, Richmond Virginia .  During the Richmond Clinic pre-screened children will receive free vision care including full vision exams and new eyewear.  Volunteers include local doctors, community partners and employees from Lens Crafters, Sunglass Hut.  Pearle Vision, Sears Optical and Target Optical.  IneSight, a Luxottica Group Foundation, is a family of charitable programs dedicated to improving vision for those in need worldwide through outreach, research and education.

OneSight has been serving the Richmond area since 1988 (formerly known as the Give Gift of Sight Foundation).  Over the past 20 years thousands of children have received free eye care from OneSight; nearly 70% percent of these local children required and received free prescription eyewear.

According to the American Optometric Association (AOA), up to 94 percent of children with reading problems have reduced visual skills.  “OneSight provides important opportunities that help children succeed in school and, ultimately, in life, “said Janet Duke.  “We have seen many cases where a pair of glasses has made the difference in helping a child succeed in school or enabling a parent to find meaningful work to support their family.  Seeing a child’s face light up because they can see clearly for the first time is something I will never forget.”
